To Fly Without You

Give a broken man the spirit of knowledge and you birth a wrath unstoppable

Give a lost soul the wisdom of the whole world and the rest of the world remains asleep

A man that has never been loved is a man that can lead a war,

for a lack of nurture yields an understanding for bloodshed.

His first encounter with love was when we first locked eyes,

the dark brown that invoked fear in others but a sense of purpose in me,

for I devoted myself to tend to his many wounds.

His hair as rough as the memories that contain him in an eternal void of emptiness,

I run my fingers through his dreadlocks in hopes to take him out of hell.

I yearned for the beast to light up his soul to me,

I reached a hand through the cage around his heart to try and save the remains of it

But the evils that came before me mastered the art of breaking his heart

His soul forever unfamiliar with the bright light it needed.

They say that all birds are destined to leave their nest one day,

But a broken man’s nest is forever his home and I am fated to fly without him.
