IT USED TO SNOW IN WINTER

Childhood beckons
Well behind
The years that passed
A thoughtful smile.

It used to snow
In Wintertime
Sledges in the park
Snowball fights
Tingling hands and feet
Up and down the street.

In back lanes
Over cobbled ice
Under washing lines
Skinned knees the price.

Mothers called
Its time for tea
To break the spell
Of you and me.

Colds hands
By the open fire
Ached and throbbed
The pain was dire.
