A grave is filled
With wet black earth
Mourners turn away
Some let the rain fall on them
Others hold up black umbrella\'s
So apt on this tear stained day
Kids sitting on a wall
Watch the unfolding drama
With a sense of disbelief
As if things like this really happen
A cold comfort
Wrapped in a future grief
Cut flowers are left
To rot and die
So fitting in this place
Where the rain falls
And little rivers flow
Down someones loving face
For there goes I
And you and me and them
All the promises we gave
Wrapped in linen
Consigned to the dark earth
Consigned to this lonely grave
But over time
The memories grow dim
Things are better left unsaid
As the light rises
And we gaze upon
The burial of the dead
