Dying Slowly

A deer goes dashing

across the business park

the suits watch from windows

like caged animals

wishing to be free

galloping

all the way

breaking convention

breaking the silence…

it feels good

natural

until

the deer is

hit by a car

while experiencing.

the excitement came too fast

the rush too exhilarating

the blood dripping

off too hastily

in all directions

covering the street

in fluid honesty

a ritual rarely seen

these days.

the deer

showed more life in the last

fading seconds

than anyone that stood

watching

behind the glass.

their time will come too

like a death knell, like an axe

swinging swiftly

by its own hand,

a human selected executioner.

death makes it exciting

yet unpredictable.

that’s the most we could ask for.

some

stick around in the game

for too long

and things become dull

life becomes dead

even though you’re not dead

and you’re still here

one year too late

one year too soon

only one more year to go…

I wish I had left

my safety

sooner.
