Summer Love
Lost in the sweltering sensuality
of Summer’s spiraling-out-of-control heat wave
they were lovers.
In the passionate humidity of their overheated desire
they began their riverside romance.
He led her to a secluded place beside a gurgling cascade.
On a blanket, as they lay entwined
and kissing, she leaned into him
unbuttoned her top
and exposed a breast
with a hardened nipple.
They could not resist each other.
Fell out of their clothing
and consummated their sworn love.
They both said, “I love you.”
.
This was not petty pulchritude
but genuine love, meant to last a lifetime.
They could see their futures in each other’s eyes.
And then, things changed.
Summer soon receded to make way for autumn.
The heat of their passion was also on the decline.
Soon, they were arguing over little things.
They drifted apart, and she found another.
As the end of Summer approached
they were all told to pack their bags
and head home from Summer Camp.
