Tryst

At first, we talk as friends.

I lay it all on you; my sins I try to cleanse.

Then we talk as lovers.

We share our dreams and fantasies with one another.

Then I try to speak to you as something else.

But then I go stiff—my heart melts.

I try to grasp the words that explain this connection.

Yet my dull mouth cannot speak such words of perfection.

I\'m only left with the physical

The hitches, the warmth, the breath, the typical

The typical feelings of love are described blankly.

I’m searching for more.

More than this surface-level nonsense, that\'s such a bore.

More than the feelings we put into words

Like trying to free caged birds.

Birds that have so much emotion that they need to be wild and free

And so that\'s what I do: I set myself free, and that bird becomes me.

I touch, I caress, I whisper, and I scream.

Through this contact, I make our feelings seen.

To show our love in the purest form

In this sacred show, I perform.

Breaking the barriers of language

Pushing off the guilty baggage

Although this performance is beautiful, it is longevity that it lacks

So quickly look at me,

And show me that you love me back.
