The I owe you-ness of history sits me
on a limb, perched in the family tree,
see me way up here in summer,
a leaf doing what leaves do,
enjoying being here,
waving within a breeze with ease,
holding on tighter at night,
watching the stars as they shine
or the bats in flight,
how this came about, atop a tree
with deep human roots,
up here where the air is fairly clear,
from here I can see most of man\'s history,
human slavery kept everyone busy,
hiding in the forest or jungle,
or beached on an island,
order wasn\'t automatic yet,
communication was de-facto emphatic,
the sword, the lance,
the club,
the whip,
the cliff, the knife, salvation,
torture, war, hunger, famine and disease,
we have spent lots of time inside misery,
the collective we,
personally, I just missed the military draft,
had a great mom and dad,
wore checks with plaid,
like this song,
I am glad I\'m glad.
