4th & 5th poems – “That Night’s Dream” – Lingering, and You Remain

(4th part)

That Night’s Dream

“Lingering”

my love, you are the one I keep so near

losing you is the only dreaded thing I fear

your beauty and scent are potent, they will endure

my admiration and loyalty, will remain for sure

your presence that lingers by my side

it’s within you I often stop to confide

you know of how your opinions viewed

jaded, dated, and a little bit skewed

your whispers incoherent at crucial times

it’s when I visualize, my anxiety climbs

you’re the one I look to each and every night

although I am alone within our dwelling site

every night those words repeated you said

the feeling of your hand on my sleeping head

reminders of when you laid lifeless by my side

that room, that door, and the bed inside

(5th part)

 That Night’s Dream

“You Remain”

all 1000 threads cling onto your scent

each of them asking where you went

the pillows still hold the shape of your head

I can’t bring myself to tell them you’re dead

bounce sheets still the same kind,

every store visited always need to find

same detergent, dish soap, and the flowers you adored

rewatching those videos we use to record

your favorite chair, it’s now where I sleep

there are days the pain hurts really deep

your mothers quilt it wraps me each night

your pictures are always in my sight

every weekend I walk the same silent route

through the harshest weather without a doubt

I leave a poem at your gravely site

I’ll be leaving this one there tonight
