6th poem for - “That Night’s Dream” - Last Breath

That Night’s Dream

“Last Breath”

I always tried to be your perfect manly kind

I must acknowledge as I review, I was blind

the changing eyes, the depression on your face

when I broke away from your firm embrace

gradually, longer naps and shorter walks

intrusive broken silence in our talks

that never failed loving kiss good night

all the signs missed, hidden out of sight

you deflected, misinformed, and even lied

appointments and diagnoses you did hide

terrified of my future nights alone

you treated the secrets as your own

most definitely I love you still to this day

can truthfully admit, I’d do it the same way

let you sleep to protect you from the fear

some beautiful words you would also hear

I would caress your head at the same pace

keep the hair from falling on your face

one thing I would ensure with my death

to whisper “I love you”, using my last breath
