On Losing Weight

Weight loss is a thing of perseverance;
day after day – looking at food – trying my hardest not to overeat.
Weight loss is a thing of labour;
Some weeks I gain weight against my will…
trapped as though in a prison of excess fat.
Weight loss is a thing of determination;
some days my mind needs a break, but I push on, refusing to quit.
Weight loss is a thing of tenacity;
I simply hate exercising, but driven by the goal, I do it.
Weight loss is a thing of passion;
at times my muscles are painfully sore but this
is when the best progress is made.
Weight loss is a thing of resolve;
the aroma of tempting food wafting into my nose
when I’ve just eaten is a continual test of my free will.
Weight loss is a thing of worry;
when the kilograms shed are inconsistent, self-doubt
creeps, wondering where I’ve gone wrong.
Weight loss is a thing of joy;
I’m lighter and have more energy.
The pain within the process is worth it.
