Ten Small Poems 4
A shadow mimics our dark side.
A sultry whisper softly voiced
may test one’s conscience
more than a yell from hell.
A surprise is a short-lived epiphany.
A buried secret is often on the mind of the deceased.
A stroke of luck gives the conscience a pass.
A windfall gives the conscience a clean slate.
A betrayal can lead to heartbreak.
Heartbreak can lead to duplicity.
Duplicity can lead to divorce.
A sleepless night time filled with shadows
can bring a panic and thoughts of death
until the Sun rises, as if it knows.
We all have a partner, lover, or soulmate
who when sadness suffocates
facilitates the lifting of the weight.
The wonder of love’s journey
is not the heartbreaks of yesterday
but the beautiful tableaus
we created along the way.
May the dreams of our tomorrows
surpass the reality of today.
