A photo, a moment, a curious child
Profoundly sure of all life’s magic
In hopeful innocence before stern truths
The warm cocoon before things tragic
Every day, such breathtaking events
And one balloon could fly me so far
Above these shining and sparkling days
Let all we can, be truly all that we are
Each morn whispered beautiful secrets
That only a child could’ve known
Each day a novel full of adventure
Each night, bright stars and the moon full aglow
And now I can almost remember
Though not feeling it as I once did
It’s faded and dusty and desperate
And hidden in places where I once lived
When I was a child, I thought like a child
I reasoned like a child, I believed like a child
I slayed all my dragons… every one…
I conquered all things…
Yet now my old shoes seem worn out
And these years have brought starlight that’s faded
Sometimes I fight hard against doubts
To show you a face that is not quite so jaded
Is this door to my soul locked up tight
Am I banished, to not get back in
Can I pray or struggle or fight
Or is it true we can never go back there again
I breathe in and out
My breath hovers in a cloud of mist
The leaves of red, warm amber and yellow
Let me know that Fall is upon me
