Look Alive, Sunshine

Despite the pelting of the rain
and the looks of disdain
sunlight peeks from the heavy clouds
pouring warmth from all around

A drop lands on your face
leaving a bitter taste
in your dried-out mouth
where you try to shout

You’ve carried the world on your back
the stress gives you panic attacks
let me carry your burden
and cut you some slack

Let me be the one thing
that makes your heart sing
the hero to your dismay
until it starts to rain again

Listen to my voice
hear my words
let me give you the choice
to change life’s course

For not even the rain
can match the deafening parade
of guilt, sin, and shame
So let’s pray for better days

The world may turn its back on you
but my love will remain true
I will stay here with you
until we’re both shades of blue

Not even death can steal our mirth
two souls speeding through life
trying with all our might
to make things right

Time waits for no one
but anyone can catch up
and take destiny by its hand
to try and love again

Let’s try to smile one more time
God has given us the signs
the sun shines down on us
so there’s no need to rush
