Once a mighty tree

Green turned to brown
nature\'s home in shards
Time\'s rot has taken the crown
memories for birds, the bards

A pile of decomposing wood splinters lay
where once towered mighty trees
Memories rot where rain and sun now play
discarded past carried by ants and breeze

Assending smoke marks the loss
Dank debris a funeral pyre
Beside it forked branches form a cross
washed in sputtering fire

Its shadows growing small to tall
A cemetery of ash and dust
sprouts new life that too will fall
Broken dreams inside chard crust
