I need not be forgiven; I will not apologise,
For I have danced near the lady with the fire bird in her eyes.
The keeper of the secret, and the god of the wise,
Will smile and applaud what we have done.
Break the heavens and shatter the blue skies,
Bring angels close with awesome trumpet cries,
For what god intended we can realise,
And the face of love will eclipse our lonely Sun.
I will put out the lanterns; I need not search anymore,
To softly touch her smooth skin is to let my soul soar,
This is the purpose and the reason we are here for,
And the sound of angel voices will rejoice.
Let the messengers be sent both far and wide.
To every far-off land and countryside,
Let them say that love has woken and will never hide,
And I can breathe at last and give joy a voice.
I need not be doubtful, I will understand,
For I have loved the lady with the firebird in her hand,
The strange bird that is born in flames rises to encircle the land,
And can vanish in a touch the years of loneliness.
She lives in a street where the gardenias murmur,
And her soft red hair is as gentle as a whisper,
Her loving smile will brighten the depths of darkness,
And her laugh will give wings to your happiness,
Oh she has two dogs that stay by her side and get in her way,
And she likes a foot rub at night to soothe her troubled day.
Sometimes she dreams of a better world than this dark place,
And has the courage to rise above in grace.
Oh firebird let me dance with you awhile,
Let the music fill the sky and open your hand and smile,
Let the firebird be free to light our way,
And we will have tenderness each and every day.
For I need not be forgiven, and I will not apologise,
For I have loved the lady with the firebird in her eyes.
