Glimpses of the past

Hidden memories of the past buried in cerebral mush
A ribbon, string or thread when pulled they appear in a gush
In smoke they rise as a mist in eyes, then disappear in a rush
Past frozen thoughts untangled knots dissolve into slush

Playpen bars under dimming stars
mountainside pines a town of mines
father\'s late night lap afternoon nap
a broken teddy bear kneeling family prayer

Buried under this all a meadow larks call I hear my mother\'s voice
grasshopper fields cardboard shields for each I rejoice
