Our Universe
Once, I thought of infinity and went mad.
Now, I contemplate zero and go insane.
Numbers, so large we can’t imagine anything more
when a trillion - trillion light years is right next door.
What could hold more?
When small things, like strings
take a million to make a part
of a part, of a part, of an atom.
How do a million hearts fit in?
The universe expands
while we die… over lands.
Our minds are closed, for to open them
would let in the light that would let us understand
Consider a Universe of universes.
Our Universe expands outward but has a limit
and what lies beyond that?
Imagine being at the edge and seeing
other objects hurtling
towards us. Perhaps another universe expanding
itself outward. Move to another place on our outer ring
and see more objects moving away
but slow enough that we will overtake someday.
Or at another spot a sea of objects in stasis with us
As we move outward they move away.
Consider…. a pulsating universe.
expanding and then contracting
objects smashing and crashing into one another
condensing down to one spot.
The spot from whence it all came.
What is the significance of one man in all of this?
Hardly anything.
Man’s importance lies in his relation to other men….
and all we seek is our own happiness.
