Jokers, Clowns, and Santa

Jokers and clowns - no thanks!

They\'re hideous when you really look

A false smile painted on a face

And they tend to be spooky and scary

Some are in horror films too

Even Punch and Judy

That wife-batterer, or partner-batterer (?)

Yet people laugh at it

That Punch looks evil, I say

But on the other hand - sort of

There\'s old miseries at Christmas, saying

\'Tell your child Santa does not exist

It\'s only some fat bloke dressed up

And the \'fat\' may be extra padding\'

And the fun and innocence

Of \'nice\' clowns in a circus

But circuses with animals in are another matter

Though I never did find out

How Santa got down the chimney!

But to be ultra-religious

Santa is an anagram of Satan

And has he got \'Claus\'?

It\'s St Nicholas really of old

Or Kris Kringle, so it says

Christ-ingle?!

You know Mr K. Kringle?!

There\'s a grating line in a hymn of \'For all the saints\'

Where modernised, it reads, verging on blasphemy:

\'The Clown of Glory tumbles in the way\'

Instead of \'The King of Glory passes on His way\'
