They say no one’s coming to save you,
But so many people saved me.
I’ve found lifeboats in the softest places.
The creak of floorboards that whisper welcome,
The open arms, tight as the truth.
Salvation hides in the simple things:
A door held open on a heavy day,
Lyrics that catch in the throat like prayer,
The warm curve of a stranger’s smile,
The silent nod from a passerby,
Or The soft murmur of “Take care” as you leave,
We’re all just patching up each other’s skies,
A touch here, a nod there,
The laugh that breaks when eyes meet,
Or the hand that steadies a fall.
Unwittingly lending fragments of light
To souls carrying storms of their own.
It’s in the laughter that cuts through silence, &
In the shared silence that says, “I’m here too.”
Each step beside one another, each unmeasured glance,
Saving without even knowing,
Leading, one faltering footstep at a time,
Back to the place that feels like home.
So maybe no hero comes crashing in,
But maybe we never needed that.
We’re all rescuing each other,
In ways the world seems small,
Walking each other back to warmth,
Saving each other, after all.
