Til death

Fingers outstretched, my palms opened to heaven.

The scent of your love, a memory just out of reach.

Thoughts of you color my day with deepest hues.

I\'ll wait. Your claim on me firm. I might wait forever.

Years travel past this window. A blanket, I\'m warm.

The fire reaches out, curls about seasoned wood.

I\'ve thought of you. Now and again I still smell cat.

Memories of laughter, coffee and love. Those eyes.

My journey\'s end, I\'ll rest. It hurts but I don\'t cry.

Images float to mind. I should, yet I can\'t forsake you.

Regrets in hindsight, there are a few. I tried and lost.

My heart beats a little slower, I breathe slower still.

Old man\'s wish, trip back in time, capture your scent.

A lock of hair perhaps and your sweat stained shirt.

To say farewell, a loving goodbye, now I close my eyes.

Rest the weary. Night comes to us all. To everyone.
