Warton had a friend of many years he considered a dear and close friend, more than a friend but less than a lover. They were childhood friends. Named Sue, they met one day for a walk.
As they walked, she said, “Warton, you are a hateful and mean person I cannot abide.”
Nonplussed, Warton turned to her and asked, “Why do you feel this way? What have I done?”
“You have no idea. Do You?” Sue said. “I never want to see you ever after this.”
“How are we to solve this? What can I do?” He asked.
She answered, “nothing. I am leaving and you shall never see me again.”
He took her in his arms and said, “let me hold you one more time for old time’s sake.”
She laid her head on his shoulder and began to sob.
“In truth, I love you will all my heart, dear Warton but cannot be around you anymore. It is much too hard. You love another not me,” she cried. “So, my solution is to leave you and my life here behind.”
With that, Sue released herself and ran from him as he stared at her. He never saw her again.
