Silent Scars

Arrow left the bow
Cutting through air
Swift sensual flight
Streak of croc through water

It should find the target
And take his breath away
Moving so fast, with impatience,
Determined to taste blood anyway

Gale wind blew
Moved the arrow away from its prey
Bystander got hit
Collateral damage, what they said

Mom and dad fight
In the  light so dim
Shadows grapple with each other
On the darkened wall
Arrows fly back and forth
The child gags her silent scream

Clock seems to halt
Time stretches like an elastic band
She braces herself for impact
Then, suddenly, screaming stops

Comes the morning
Brings with her smiles,
On everyone\'s lips
As if nothing had happened
When dad plants a kiss

Then, arrives the night
Brings with her the unwelcome guest
The fear of another fight
More arrows,
Might pierce her small beating heart
Before the fickle morning decides
To show its face
