Too Sweet for Your Sweet Tooth

There was nothing good
In the goodbye.
Perhaps, only perhaps,
A closure, an end of agony,
A long overdue full stop to a lie.

There was nothing well
In the welcome.
Smiles that didn\'t touch those appraising eyes,
Wrapped in thin veneer of nice words,
Tales of deception,
Too fake to excite.

Wished good morning like a parroting machine,
Not sure what good was in it;
Strange nauseated feelings engulfed you.
Was there any truth in what you said or did?

Avoid truth like plague,
Keep them guessing what you meant.
Uncertainty is the supreme weapon;
Use it well to bring others defeat.

Control is the essence of civilized life.
Don\'t cry, show no excitement,
Be a cool cobra,
Always be in control of your emotional side.

One day, revulsion overflows your senses.
Question gnaws at your innards:
Do you have to lie, digest lies, and control your urges
To live another day?

The answer was there, floating in the wind.
So many times it did implore,
Too drunk on your success you refused to listen.
The gift of human life is best enjoyed in freedom.

So many people laid down their lives.
They sacrificed for you to be free.
How did you enchain yourself in the slavery of lies and control?
Was freedom too sweet for your sweet teeth?
