FORTY YEARS

The face I once loved
Now shallowed and cold
Upon summers sweet smell
I tried once  to hold.

But that cruel rebuffal
That appears in dream
Wore bitter finalty
After forty years is still seen.

In a face that I never
Recognised today
Your loneliness etched
In a time far away.

I wanted to hold you
Speak of good times
Forget the pain
The agony and lies.

But time it has deemed
We once were one
In bright sun of youth
The day we begun.

Time now to whisper
Some wandering words
Some smiles from a past
That lies sleeping and curled.
