CHRISTMAS EVE

Homeless huddled
Under dirty quilts
War memorial closeby
The winter wind
Burns the eyes
Beneath a Christmas sky.

Fifty yards away
The open market in full swing
The church up the road
God does his thing.

Goodwill to all
In wonderous splendour
Except for the lonely
Lost and ill
A special time for many
Though some have lost the will.

The cold ground mocks
Those without a home
Without a family
Heartless stone.

No joy or greetings
No happiness or handshake
Politicians say lifestyle choice
We dont all get the breaks.
