Tune: Richmond
(\'City of God, how broad and far\')
Psalm 44 v.1-8
***********
We have with our ears, O God, heard
From ancestors your word
What work you did in days of old
It was rehearsed and told
How you did drive the heathen out
With your hand strong, no doubt
And planted your people safely
Enemies cast out be
But they got not land by themselves
Nor came to its true wealth
But you, O Lord, your strength, your might
Saved them and gave them light
The light of your countenance, they
Knew salvation that day
Because you favoured them, so they
Did prosper in their way
You are my King, O god, command
Salvation by your hand
Through you we shall our enemies
Tread down till none them sees
We shall not trust to self alone
But your great workings shown
In you, O God, we boast all day
Praise your name great, we say
