Before the cry

Before the cry

I can\'t sleep with an empty pillow by my head,
in the chair, on the couch, on the floor instead.
Laying, sitting thinking of an empty hand,
nobody to grab it, reached out to expand.

No two to become one with a touch and smile,
no beautiful you here for a while.
No dented pillow, no mattress shaped to feel,
some days the thoughts are truly unreal.

Sitting with you next to a favorite view,
conversing under a sky cloudless and blue.
Sleeping alone each night with the pain,
trying to focus within this lonely brain.

No pillow used, no you by my side,
these nights I sleep after I\'ve cried.
