Hey, welcome in
I\'m sorry for the mess
The last few tenants left it
I haven\'t had time to clean
Yes, there\'s ketchup on the walls
And all the windows are broken
The carpet\'s flayed and ripped
And the table\'s upturned
Don\'t mind the shattered mugs
Or the roaches in the sink
There\'s a bird\'s nest in the fireplace
It just adds to the aesthetic
The first floor is a mess, I must admit
Ripped apart and left
The doors\' off their hinges
It\'s a miracle it\'s still standing
But come up the stairs
And see the second floor
And let our boots leave prints
Walking through the dust
No one\'s touched the second storey
For many many years
At least it\'s still intact
Unlike the rest
Where the first floor
Was left in disarray
The second floor is pristine
And very much unused
Countless books, old and new
Line the walls and shelves
Thoughts and stories
Never told, never spoken
The bedrooms, untouched
Their linens tightly wrapped
Just waiting for a tired soul
To embrace and let rest
Dust lines every corner
And cobwebs galore
You\'re the first to see this floor
That I can assure
I\'m sorry for the mess
I know that it is bad
The last few tenants left it
But I never cleaned it up
But now that you are here
Maybe we can fix it up?
Put those broken plates together
And clean those dirty rugs?
Swipe the dust off the floor
And throw those spiders out
Untidy those beds
And read those untouched books
I guess the fault is mine
For letting the house falter
To fall into disarray
A home for anyone but me
But maybe, just maybe
We can make this house
Clean and comfortable again
A home for two to live in
