Accidental Poet

Chase That Lie

I was once like you

Wanting that high

Old enough to know better

But young enough to ignore why

My generation had all the stuff

We smoked, snorted, drank and took pills

Thought we knew it all

But what our dumb asses didn’t know

Was that stuff kills

“Oh, that won’t happen to me”, you say

Till your life’s hanging by a thread

With your buddy by your side

And you realize he’s dead

Life plays hard ball

When you don’t listen the first time

Slip just once more

Just might be the end of the line

Life is a gift to all of us

Choose carefully how you dance

Screw that up

You might not get another chance

So be thankful for your life

Live for your smiles tomorrow

Don’t be the source

Of anyone’s sorrow

Next time you want to

Chase that lie

Remember it’s a road to nowhere

A road where you might die
