In a white bed laid with finality
Lied an everyman facing mortality
Mr. Earls was the old man\'s name
Who pondered what he became
Mr. Earls had the best bed money could buy
No better place could one wait to die
He had made all the money anyone could
And had given much for the greater good
Mr. Earls had conquered love
And eagerly waited to join her above
All of us children stayed by his side
He raised us well and full of pride
Mr. Earls lived a very long life fulfilled
And other lives, if given his, would be thrilled
It would seem that he had nothing more
To accomplish before passing that last door
Yet Mr. Earls, facing mortality on that bed
Took his last breath on Earth and said:
\"God, I\'m not ready to go.\"
And what he meant, we would never know
