faces of the mirrors

A girl looks at the shadowed mirror, What she finds within feels hollow and unclear. The light of faith dances deep inside, Revealing her life’s journey in a single stride.

An adult woman appears, beautiful and fair, Yet tears glisten silently in her stare. The little girl gasps, frozen in shock, Her older self whispers, “Please, stay and talk.”

The mirror moves, showing another self, A bride, married to her unspoken dreams on a shelf. She wipes her tears with a practiced smile, Burying her wishes in silence all the while.

The mirror shifts to an elder so frail, Lying on a hospital bed, counting breaths that pale. The little girl asks, “What happened to you?” The elder replies, “My smile was a knife that cut through— It harmed those I loved, though none could see, It carried my pain and silenced me.”
