Tune: St Fulbert
(\'Ye choirs of new Jerusalem\')
Luke 24 v.13-32 parts
***********
Two disciples on a journey
To Emmaus* they be (* about 60 furlongs or 7 1/2 miles from Jerusalem)
The risen Jesus to them neared
And unto them appeared
At first they knew not it as He
Said, How can these things be?
That Jesus of Nazareth, he
Suffered and died, so be
We trusted that it had been He
Who would redeemer be
Of Israel, and three days have passed
Since He did breathe His last
And certain a vision did see
Of angels, they said He
Was alive, some to tomb did go
But of Him was no show
Jesus said then, O foolish, slow
To scriptures believe, know
Are you, and words prophets foretold
Of Christ in days of old
How He would suffer, die, then rise
Be seen before you eyes
Again, and enter His glory
Gain o\'er death victory
They recognised Him, He took bread
Christ risen from the dead
Broke it, blessed them, as Passover
Meal they shared before sure
-------
After this they went back the 7 1/2 miles to Jerusalem again,
to tell the others.
