At the Soldiers\' Halt 1942  by Alexey Fatianoff

On a sunny meadow alone ,
Having arched his black eyebrow,
A fellow on the soft accordion
Plays musingly about true love.

About how  hot clear nights
He spent with his girlfriend,
What beautiful shawls, wraps
He gave her in a moment

Play, play, tell, my
Accordion, yourself
About how the black-eyed
Drove me crazy, deft

When the young boy left
 For a terrible  bloody battle
On a dark, starry night,
He offered her his heart capital .

In response, the proud girl fair
Joked, apparently, with him:
- When you return with an order,
Then we will talk. I promise

A fighter amidst the smoke and gunpowder
Was friends with the accordion,
And in a fierce battle with the enemy murderer
He earned a medal honour one .

A flying letter has arrived
Into the snowy distance,
That  she awaits... That in the worst case
She agree at least to a medal.

Play, play, tell, my
Accordion, yourself
About how the black-eyed
Drove me crazy, deft ...
