Statistic

You tell me
Run to a safe space
Give up and cry
Blame someone else
But I’d rather die
Than see the look on your face
Of smug condescension
I won’t be your evidence
Won’t give you the satisfaction

You tell me
I’m helpless
I shouldn’t even try
Just keep pointing fingers
Don’t ever ask why
But I would rather go deaf
Than hear you say
“I told you so”
I would rather go blind
Than confirm the lies you know

I will not be your statistic
I am not a part of your fake demographic
You want me to blame you
You’ll never live to see the day
I won’t ever shift the fault lines
I won’t throw this all away

Why would I throw this all away?
When you have so much left to say?
And so much damage left to do
I know I must speak what’s true

Tell me how does it feel
To live off of your lies?
To project all the fraud
And deny your disguise
Truth’s inconvenient
Bend it to your will
You’re meant to serve us
But we swallow the pill

Tell me how do you sleep
Are you up till sunrise?
With the weight of your guilt
And the wool from their eyes
Or are you in bed at peace
With a conscience that’s still?
Did it die on the dotted line
Signed for the bill?
