Choices

Sometimes we don’t know the gravity of our choices for years.
Until one day we stop and we stare at ourselves in the mirror.
We let out a long sigh and lean in.
We look in our own eyes and wonder “when did it all begin?”

When we finally take a moment to ask how we got here and who we even are.
When we see our age, our wrinkles, and wonder how we got that scar.
We forget to relearn ourselves or discover what is new.
We get stuck on autopilot, reliving what is tried and true.

Would the other choices have lead to this?
Had I gone left rather than right what would I have missed?
What would I have gained?
Would I be happier and have a smaller frame?

Would days feel intentional rather than stuck on repeat?
Would days feel less like tricks and more like treats?
Would the gravity of those choices be easier to carry?
Would I have a home with kids and a good woman to marry?

It’s chalked up to just being a Libra’s trait.
But indecisiveness is because I’ve constantly carried gravity’s weight.
I can see all sides and still have to choose one.
Without knowing the ending or if I should run.

Sometimes we don’t know the gravity of our choices for years.
Until one day we stop and we stare at ourselves in the mirror.
How do I love the woman looking back at me?
And forgive for all the things she couldn’t be?
