Should I open the door ?

What should I do?

They are marching around our houses,

Searching to kill me and my spouse.

I am frightened and unsure of our survival —

This is a genocide — no one will be left, no soul alongside, to continue our community’s revival.

I know they are separating males and their wives,

To take their husbands\' lives at first,

And later want females for their dreadful thirst.

Humanity in them is over, or now in its wane,

When they are not ashamed of burning kids down the lane.

Angry, brain-dead group approaching, politically driven ideology — they are sick and insane.

I have started to read spiritual texts,

Making myself and my wife ready for what might be about to happen next.

Suddenly in my mind, flashbacks of the golden memories appear —

The day I graduated, got a job, and later got married — everything about to end with me and disappear.

We should have been warned when they first removed the shutter of the gutter,

And found a small girl’s remains — blood dried up, coming from her wounds through her veins.

They have shot down some of us,

Looted our house, burned our cars and our bus.

I saw one of my neighbours dying alive —

He was such a passionate youngster, full of aspirations to thrive.

I saw my uncle unconscious and chained,

Badly injured — toes and ankles from running, now fully drained.

I saw my friend dead, wrapped in tires and soaked in diesel,

His remains being fed on by pigs and weasel.

They even killed our pet animals —

The only thing left for them is to start being cannibals.

I hear voices of screams and pain,

Not sure killing innocents will ever bring them any gain

Shh! Again, a knock on my door —

It might be a friend in need or a foe to bleed.

He is knocking constantly,

Shouting for help instantly.

Should I open the door?

Even as a grown man, I’m trembling, wetting the floor.

He is screaming badly — I have to open it, sadly.

My life partner hesitates... what should I do?
