What’s in a Name?
They told him Laura misses him
some friends he met, one that he used to date.
They said she can’t paint anymore.
Can’t hold a brush or create.
That she had closed her atelier
and is now a brunette.
He laughed, in a sad and unusual way
from missing her and not appearing to be upset.
They implied that he should give her a call.
He hadn’t seen her or phoned
for many months, four to be exact.
Come Saturday night, home alone.
He found her in his contacts.
He called, texted, and voice-mailed
but, she had not returned the call, as yet.
He phoned during the week, again to no avail.
He kept imagining Laura as a brunette.
On Thursday he called Jen, a mutual friend
but she hadn’t heard from Laura for a while.
They agreed to go visit her on the weekend.
They would meet there, it was only a few miles.
At Laura\'s there was no one home, and the door was ajar.
He called out for Laura and Jen appeared.
He reacted, “Oh! It’s you. She’s not here?”
“No.” she replied, “But let’s go check the atelier!”
The workshop door was unlocked.
They entered and he noticed Jen had locked the door.
It was no longer a workplace, but a bedroom. His world was rocked.
Jen pushed him onto the bed saying lustfully, she wants him and more.
“Wait a minute, Jen. Where’s Laura? What’s going on?”
She answers, ”This place is mine now. I took it over when she left.”
“ Where’s Laura/” he insists. “Moved to France with Marcel. Laura\'s gone.”
“Who?” he asks.” Marcel, someone she just met.”
He decides to stay the night.
Sunday evening, Laura called him. and asked, “What’s new”.
He questioned her, “I thought you were in Paris with Marcel?”
She replied, “I was,” and he turned off his phone with, ‘Damn you!”
A few minutes later, she called back and said, “What the hell?”
“I was with Marcelle, a girl, for a two-week holiday.”
“Jen said you moved there, and I thought it was a guy.”
“Well, I did move, from my old place and we did go away.
I think Jen misled you and you fell for her lie”.
“Oh,” he groaned and then said….. “I\'ve missed you.”
And she replied, “I’ve missed you too.”
