They tried to tell me
At primary school
That I was merely
A subject, a tool
Of government
Of King and queen
I must wave the flag
Let it be seen.
As I grew
I couldnt understand
Why poverty lived
In this land
While a certain family
By birth only
Every luxury
Wealth unashamedly.
If a letter arrives
You must go to war
As your forefathers
Did before
To protect privilege
Your king or queen
And if invaded
They will leave the scene.
Escaping to
Safer shores
A neutral zone
Till the end of war.
