Envy to Empathy

When I first saw you,

You captivated me.

I love your style,

Your hair,

And the way you carry yourself -

I wanted to be you.

Envy swells up

As I wish I could be you.

I force myself into your group,

Piquing up at a subject

That I like.

I chime in,

Thinking nothing of it.

I did this for weeks.

After a tragedy struck,

You sought me out,

And I gave you a place to stay.

After a while,

We became friends.

You told me your mental battles,

I empathized.

Slowly over time,

I realized,

I don\'t want to be like you -

I don\'t want your mental battles,

Since I have mine.

You point out some things,

I accept the critique.

You made me realize myself,

My styles,

My worth.

I thank you.

You told me

You\'re glad you met me;

Or you wouldn\'t be living now.

I\'m glad,

I can see you smile,

And have good times.

I appreciate being your friend.
