HAUNTED LIGHTHOUSE

When lightning flares
Across the skies
The lighthouse beam
Repetitive eyes
Scan a stormy
Windswept night
For lost souls
In its light.

Deep inside
The footsteps clatter
Upon stony steps
Rising higher
Cold and clammy
The keepers heart
Beats to rise
Pulse to charge.

Haunted place
The locals say
Best to avoid
Even in day
He scoffed, he laughed
Old wives tale
Now shadows chill
As if in grave.

The drunken laughter
Sailors curse
Closing nearer
Upon those stairs
Heavy boots
They scrape the stone
Now he believes
This haunted zone.
