Why is a ticking clock in a quiet room one of the loudest things in the world?
When there’s hustle and bustle you don’t hear it.
Well, maybe for one second.
But then it’s gone again.
Drowned out by our day to day monotony.
But, for example, when you’re in the doctor’s office, on their time, waiting to be seen for any kind of visit, that clock is unfathomably loud.
In that situation we’re forced to see that things are beyond our control and we have no choice but to slow down.
To be still and not fill up what seems like unused time with unnecessary tasks.
Maybe that clock seems so loud because we realize our own clock is ticking.
