Jon Nakapalau

i miss our coffee dates

especially during winter
you could always make me smile
even as we shared our disappointments
                                                                               somehow it swirled away
                                                                               like cream mixing in
you once told me
that forks made better stirrers then spoons
                                                                               the tines allowing increased                      viscosity
slots                                                                      allowing a more even flow
but it would never really matter
spoons would always win out
                                                                               and it made me think
                                                                               maybe that was our problem
two forks trying to make it in a world of spoons
lots of coffee out there
                                                                               but no place for us
                                                                               what can you do
when the world makes you an instrument
of a process already determined
but the clinking sounds the same.
