Smiles and Stickers

In our park, you in your princess stroller, on that perfect fall-tinged day…

Up ahead awaits our bench…

You look back with your pleading, angelic eyes…

Can we stop? Sure, ok.

Of late you’ve become my sticker girl…

Those little books full of tiny stickers have become your world…

Now as you find sticks for us to throw in the woods, I place a few of your favorites under our bench…

So, on a day that you may come back, find them and think of us, you might know…

The purity of your innocent love transformed me…

As I came to know a heart can hurt from loving so…

And I know its certain…that I will never “not” love again.

And I pray that you and I return here, sit on our bench…

Where we once been…

You reach under, discover, and remember that day we shared…

For our years may be far apart…in our hearts we are one…

For little one…

I now know what you’ll become…

A woman that by simply looking one’s way, with that smile that can say, love can rule our day…

As I did, when you glanced back at me and smiled, untold times, when those precious moments in time…were mine.

So, on that precious fall day when you were not ready yet to speak, rest assured Babygirl, you taught me that words can be so unneeded, when eyes so wide with a smile of joy…

Could make this old man once again feel like a little boy…

And may there comes a day that you\'ll find this poem…

And know… then in the early days of our start…every time your angel eyes met mine…you broke your grandpa’s heart…

And honey it never hurt…it was my splendid suffering to just love you more...for then and now…for you are my Babygirl.
