digitalis purpurea

The others spoke of a sole panacea,

that would cure the heart of all its ache.

A single kiss from the digitalis purpurea,

and your soul forever caught in its embrace.

A plethora of petals plague the green,

marooned like sirens adrift at sea.

Whispering secrets, keep your eye keen,

as the pretty purple flowers look back seductively.

Lured in by the shade of royalty,

and the echoes of their sibilant sway;

“Summon, solicit, succour, sustain,

surrender to the signal to secure your stay.”

Upon first inspection, harmless beings,

it’s once you taste their flower, your problem heeds.

Ignore their aroma, false scent of freeing,

for digitalis purpurea, the foxglove weed,

whose kiss leaves hearts both free and seized.
