Too Young

Lady love of eyes bright blue is falling,

Grasps loosely onto twilight shores

Fear’s loosened slightly by the hand she’s holding,

As she drowns within the beating of a broken heart

With hands held tight, I love her whole

She’s flying… She’s crying…

And it is she I am holding

Young Mary, sought him over the raging foam,

She fell for a man

A man to bring her home

She brought him home, but against her mother’s words,

She’s too young to bear a son

So some wicked words she’s laid on him,

So back to his home the man would have to run,

“My girl’s too young to bear a son”

Young Mary, back to her mum she chose to run,

As he comes forth as a begging son

Pleads, “my true love it is to bear,

And with your girl, my heart doth share,”

“O of my words you won’t be free,

Nor from my fright, I’ll see you plead

From afar you’ll watch as your true love’s growing old,

And watch as her heart turns to one of stone,

You’ll watch as her young eyes turn to dust,

For great are the blessings,

That tear you apart,

For she’s too young to bear a son”

Young Mary sighed, she’s worn, and wed,

And spoke with a tender heart,

She said: “I wish my life was at an end”

Young Mary, out of her window she did sneak,

To see the eyes of the man she loved

She held him close,

As out of her eyes the tears run,

For she’s too young to bear a son

He brushed a strand of hair from the blue beauty of her eyes,

As to him young Mary did look up,

To see the heart falling from his eyes

It fell and broke upon the floor,

As he released her from his sodden grip,

“You are too young to bear a son”

To the floor, young Mary, she did fall,

As up she picked her broken heart

“I wish my life was at an end,”

And as the mother spoke and swore

“Great are the blessings that tear them apart,

Great are the blessings that tear them apart”
