I am watching the children
And hearing their parents tell them
Not too close to the edges.
And don’t disturb the fishermen
They don’t listen, they’re having fun
Thinking about nothing
Forgetting what they’ve done
I am watching the fisherman
Walking to the end of the pier
Getting wet by the waves
A seagull’s screaming in his ear
He doesn’t mind if the fish don’t bite
Thinking about nothing
Even if it takes all night
I am watching all the boats
Seeing people enjoying the sun
Sitting on the afterdeck
Their holidays have just begun
The first day of their autumn break
Thinking about nothing
Staring at the wake
And I
I am sitting on some rocks
listening to the sea
And the sea is listening to me
