Remembrance At Eleven

Adapted with permission, from Arqios\' poem

\'Eleventh Hour Remembrance\'

Tune: The Supreme Sacrifice

(\'O valiant hearts\')

**********

The vineyard calls even at fading light

The last are welcomed to employers* sight

No wage is lost, no price, no soul denied

The master\'s mercy gracious turns the tide

At trenches\' edge, the clocks they did align

The eleventh hour, it drew its sign

Guns fell silent, faltering breath was stayed

A fragile peace, armistice at last made

So numbers bind both in war and in word

The Gospel\'s grace, the bugle sound is heard

From vineyards rows and unto fields of clay

We mark the hour, and we bow to pray

----------

* The \'employer\' is the owner of the vineyard.
