Alarm clock

It keeps me awake at night

Tick-tock-Tick-tock-Tick-tock

Why-did-she-have-to-get-sick

Thoughts rushing through my head

In the long hours of the night

To the beat of the clock ticking

Bloody clock

Next to me she sleeps

Snores gently

What-if-her-breathe-ing-stops

Where did that thought come from?

I lie there, wide awake again

Sweating

Bloody clock

I notice

The negative thoughts follow the clocks beat

Why is that?

Be-cause-it’s-count-ing-down-your-life

If the clock stops, do I?

Does she?

Bloody clock

Now I ignore the clock

I am concentrating on her breathing

Just noticed that her breathing

Matches the clocks beat

Suddenly the alarm goes off

I scream

Bloody clock

She stretches and knocks the clock on the floor

It keeps on ticking

So do I

So does she

But I am so tired

So very tired

Bloody clock
