Nothing Gold Can Stay

Nothing Gold Can Stay

The leaf awakes in tender green —

A fleeting hue both bright, unseen.

Its emerald fades to amber low —

No gilded blush is meant to grow.

The Dawn inclines in golden lace,

Yet dusk will steal its fleeting grace.

The sun cups light within her hands,

But shadows govern all the lands.

The petal pressed in beauty\'s reign,

Will crumble soft in Time\'s domain.

The Spring, it sings, but Summer sighs —

The autumn whispers quiet goodbyes.

Oh brief the hour, gold doth gleam,

For nothing tarries in a dream.

It flourishes, then folds away —

For nothing gold can ever stay.
