DEATH OF A CHILD

They gather together
To bury a coffin so small
Religions insistance
A lesson to us all
God he moves
In mysterious ways
Tell that to the mother
Whose sadness prevails.

A nursery room
Decorated and filled
With crib and toys
Emotion it fills
The eyes of parents
Those stood nearby
No sermons please
Its time to cry.

No biblical anecdotes
No chanting or spells
No crucifixes
Reality swells
Its time to leave
The cold earth accepts
The body of child
As grief it side steps.
